What will happen to me if I take part and what do I have to do?

On the day, we will discuss what taking part in this project entails and answer any questions you may have. You will be asked to sign a consent form. We will provide a private space for you to be photographed by a medical photographer. We will only take a photograph of the specific body part. The session will take approximately 15 minutes (if multiple images are needed this may take longer).

Can I bring a friend or relative?

Of course! It is very important to us that we respect the privacy and dignity of our participants. You can choose to have a partner, relative or friend with you or we can provide you with a chaperone.

For some photographs you may be required to remove items of clothing, e.g., if we are photographing a rash on the thigh, which may feel intrusive to you. If you would like a chaperone to be present, or prefer to be photographed by someone of the same gender as yourself, please let us know and we will do our best to comply with your wishes.

If you are consenting on behalf of a child, you will be required to be present at the session for its entire duration and supervise / chaperone the child.

How will my image be used?

The images will be uploaded onto a digital library on the NHS England website. They may be freely downloaded for use in hard copy publications and on websites and social media pages.

What if I want to withdraw my image?

You have the right to withdraw consent to participate at any time.

If you withdraw consent to being photographed during a session, consent to use of the photographs will be automatically withdrawn from that point and any photographs already taken will be deleted.

If a participant withdraws consent to use the photographs at any point after the session:

the lawfulness of their use prior to such withdrawal will not be affected.

the photographs will be removed from the digital library on the NHS England website.

any photographs that have already been published in accordance with prior consent may continue to be used for the purpose(s) for which they were published.

Such notice will take effect upon receipt by UHBW.
